About Bishop Stephen D. Lewis & The Present Truth
Mighty gospel preacher and armed with the straight testimony and the message of “present truth” [2 Peter 1:12], Bishop Stephen D. Lewis began fulfilling his call to evangelism in 1991 when he founded The Present Truth-A World Ministry based in southern California. It was a humble beginning in the small towns of South Boston and Danville, Virginia. Here he pastored two small congregations, 80-members strong.
Joining him in his evangelistic work is his wife of 18 years, Sherrell, and their children Sesley (15), Stayci (14) and Samuel (10).
Fifteen years later, Bishop Lewis is a powerful, worldwide evangelist having baptized thousands of souls into the remnant church and the body of Christ. Last year alone, he baptized over 600 souls and planted two new churches in the U.S. and two overseas. His ministry is strongly affecting thousands of lives across the globe. One believer declared, “…I have been a member of the church for over 30 years, but for the first time in my life I really feel as if I am in love with Jesus and can say that I’m a Christian…” Another declared, “…Bishop Lewis has done more than just motivate or inform me. My life is entirely changed, and I just thank God every day for it!”
Since starting The Present Truth, Bishop Lewis has preached the Word in the Cook Islands, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Canada, Fiji, South Africa and all over the United States. Thousands appreciate his honest, uncut messages and are stirred into dedicated action as he preaches the truth of the Bible with unprecedented power. Life changing sermons dealing with the spiritual life, doctine, righteousness by faith, family, relationships and healthful lifestyle empower listeners to Christ-centered and holy living. A non-profit organization, the ministry is financially supported by faith partners who desire Bishop Lewis and The Present Truth to “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” 2 Timothy 4:2.
The mission of The Present Truth is to present the Three Angels’ Message of Revelation 14 and to declare “…all of the counsel of God” Acts 20:27. The ministry is centered on evangelism and has a strong youth emphasis. Evangelistic crusades and other efforts become traveling schools of evangelism where young gospel workers are trained for missionary service in the areas of church planting and leadership, true gospel medical missionary work, literature evangelism and door-to-door Bible work. Successful methods of evangelistic outreach are studied, implemented and witnessed by these youth as they daily work and learn in the school of Christ. Many have gone from gangster to minister, worldling to Christian, criminal to model citizen, and from a nominal churchgoer to a passionate witness for Christ. Plans are now being developed for a central “School of Evangelism” to meet the growing need for rightly trained gospel workers.
Bishop Lewis was first introduced into the world arena in November of 1999, when he conducted a worldwide television evangelistic crusade series entitled Pentecost 2000 for Three Angels’ Broadcasting Network (3ABN). This series covered topics such as the love of God and prophetic events. Titles included “Thank God the Law was Nailed to the Cross—I’m Enjoying Grace!;” “The Mark of the Beast;” “The New World Order;” “Why Are There So Many Denominations?;” “How to Tell a True Prophet;” “Which Psychic Can Speak to the Dead?;” “The Sin that God Will Not Forgive;” and many more. If you ask around your own church, you just might find someone who was newly baptized or even rebaptized when they watched Pentecost 2000. Even today, it continues to influence lives via many cable television and radio stations. It is frequently used in the home church, prayer groups, church groups and prison ministries. Only heaven is able to record the wonderful results of this still popular and much-loved series!
It is interesting to note that while Pentecost 2000 was airing, 3ABN could not even handle all of the phone calls and video orders that came into their station. They had to use extra volunteer help, redo their phone system and contract others to produce videos. The President of 3ABN, Danny Shelton, testified on air that these meetings were the best meetings that were ever aired on his network. Also, he stated and that the messages had deeply influenced his own life.
One might ask: “What makes Bishop Lewis’ ministry and preaching so effective?” “The unction of the Holy Spirit!” would be the reply. None who attend a meeting or listen to his preaching walk away without feeling their need for the Saviour and for a deep searching of heart. His meetings are always characterized with solemn interest and the spirit of unity, faith and holy conviction. His work is fulfilling the prophetic words found in Malachi 4:5: “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD” [Read also 1 Kings 17-19]. Giving the trumpet that “certain sound,” Bishop Lewis calls us to choose between God and the world, to live up to the law of God and the Bible standard, and to surrender whole-heartedly to the workings of the Holy Spirit.
When one asks about the scope and influence of his work, he will likely give his favorite reply: “Let’s finish the work, so we can go home!” May the ministry and service of Bishop Stephen D. Lewis, his family and The Present Truth speedily prepare a people for the soon coming of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ.
